Strengths: This is an excellent primer on what to consider and how to act from an HR perspective if your company is strongly considering expanding to other countries.

Area(s) of Opportunity: The last section of the book consists of a handful of case studies. I love case studies, but I'm always weary of people attributing an outcome to 1 specific cause. With these case studies, there are several other possible causes which are not at all explored. It makes me wonder if this small final section was rushed to meet a publication date.

I strongly recommend this book if:

  1. you are trying to help prepare your company for international expansion (including via M&A) for the first time, or

  2. you are studying for the SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) exam (this book does a great job of reinforcing several relevant concepts)

  3. you generally enjoy reading something that is well-written and feels well-researched

I don't strongly recommend this book if:

  • you have passed the SHRM-SCP (which I have), because you probably already know 95% of the content.
