I’ve read >500 Harvard Business Review articles in my lifetime. While I strongly recommend subscribing to the site, it would be unrealistic to expect every reader would want to do so, or that you would want to read all of my >75 article recommendations. I am therefore curating my recommendations into 10-20 articles for different employee groups. This one is for frustrated employees of any level.

How did I choose these articles?

I reviewed the 80ish HBR articles that I’ve read that actually inspired real improvements while working with frustrated employees across levels and sectors. I then loosely organized them into 2 topic areas. As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how to translate an article into concrete professional growth strategies or other concrete guidance. Please enjoy.

  1. 28 Questions to Ask Your Boss in Your One-on-Ones

  2. What’s Holding Back Your Career Development?

  3. Don’t Quit Your Job Before Asking Yourself These Questions

  4. Why You Didn’t Get That Promotion

  5. When a New Layer of Management Is Hired Above You

  6. Am I C-Suite Material

Navigating and Preventing Stressful Situations and People Challenges

  1. The Subtle Art of Saying No

  2. Set Better Boundaries

  3. What People (Still) Get Wrong About Emotional Intelligence

  4. How to Keep Your Cool in High-Stress Situations

  5. How to Make Rational Decisions in the Face of Uncertainty

  6. Don’t Let a Good Story Sell You on a Bad Idea

P.S. If you run out of free HBR articles, you could theoretically open a new incognito window to read additional ones.
